![]() Should not even matter on the thoughts one has about "the use of MP3s in Pro-Audio software or whatever", the process/feature of using an MP3 file in Live isn't working for the OP. But the OP is simply saying when he drags in the file it is not working, the software freezes and that suggests to me that it cannot do this conversion for some reason. Live, as you said yourself, should work with MP3 files it will just do the conversion to a lossless format to make things easier. So without getting too pedantic with exactly what it is Live is actually working with in the background lets dial back to the basics! Live converts to Wav or AIFF, lossless formats, before it can use it for anything, This way you can find out more about what file this really is that you're dealing with. Therefore it makes quite a lot sense to route around bugs, such as those asghdf123 speaks about, by converting your source files yourself, even if Live shouldn't normally crash when adding a lossy audio file. I've used Traktor for close to 18 years now. If it does an internal ultrafast conversion in memory then it typically almost never fails on any source. Traktor doesn't convert MP3 or AAC on disk as Live does. I don't care what any originator may say about this. Given that Live converts to Wav or AIFF, lossless formats, before it can use it for anything, I'd venture to say Live was never set up to handle anything but AIFF/Wav directly. I know the reason for the recommendation but Live is designed from v1.0 to directly deal with MP3 files. Strange to recommend NOT importing MP3 files. It does the MP3 > Wav conversion automatically as a way of convenience so the user should not have to first convert their files. Well not specifically considering the whole reason Live was created in the first place was to mix and chop MP3 files. Should just drag in and drop on a clip spot. If it happens with all MP3 files you try then for Mac, i'm out of ideas. If you are hell-bent on using that specific file then you could try and do a manual conversion to WAV/AIFF. I know the reason for the recommendation but Live is designed from v1.0 to directly deal with MP3 files ![]() Generally adding MP3 source files to a Pro Audio app is a recipe for an (audio) "disaster", but as long as you know what you're doing and why, then why not? Note this is what Live would have done anyway.
